The challenge of the ultimate mountain

A staggering elevation of more than 1,900 metres will have to be surmounted to win the race starting in St. Niklaus at 1,085 metres above sea level, up to the world-famous resort of Zermatt (1,616 m.a.s.l.), and finishing on Riffelberg, towering 2,585 metres above sea level amidst 29 four-thousand-meter summits. An immensity of wild nature along this marathon course of 42.195 kilometres awaits discovery.

In the election of a marathon of the year 2011, the Zermatt Marathon ranged from 100 marathons the excellent 14th place – in the choice of Europe’s most popular mountain marathon had enough even for the bronze-medal. For every finisher, the Zermatt Marathon will donate CHF 1.- to the FREUDE HERRSCHT (Joy is in the air) Association. The FREUDE HERRSCHT Association, under the leadership of the Ex Swiss Federal Consul Adolf Ogi, wants children to be more active, experience nature, play sport, meet friends and build up same age relationships.
